Today’s Gospel reading is from the I Am the Bread of Life Discourse from John 6. Yesterday we read how Jesus is telling those who gave chase and followed Him after the Miracle of feeding of the 5000, that they are doing things of the surface level, without being aware how the inborn desire for God is driving them to seek Him, even in chasing miracles.
Todays reading tells them that seek God, because He is the one who can fulfil all their desires completely. Desire for the food of heaven, desire to be one with God, desire for his companionship. If God fed them in the desert to sustain physically, The prophesied time is here and now, and he will feed them spiritual. raising them up from their spiritual death, to be reborn in spirit, thought and deed. And be able to walk with God, like Adam.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” He is waiting for us is the Eucharist, to come and make His home in us.
