Let look at today’s reflection from the point of view of wisdom.
The First Reading speaks of a distinction between the wisdom of this world and God’s wisdom, and then there is individual human wisdom. Worldly and human wisdom think in a way which reflects self, and self preservation, because it cannot see beyond the physical working of the present world. Therefore the decisions and conclusions they draw are based of fear and self good. We notice this in the world, the rich are out to secure their own lives and therefore they want to make money, at any cost, even if in the future, their methods will lead the world to degradation and depleted resources. Use of plastic in its various forms stands out here. This wisdom also labels the things around as good, bad, desirable, undesirable, horrible, acceptable etc, when these in essence may not be as these labels seek to suggest that they are.
The Wisdom of God includes foresight, foreknowledge, love, justice, patience, kindness, equality, and respect for everything created. The paths he leads us may seem, unjustice, undesirable, bad (according to worldly labels), but these are paths of good for you and good for everyone around, and good for creation. The best example here is Job, the worldly wisdom is here represented by Job’s friends and wife, But Job had full faith in the relationship he had with Yahweh, and he clung on to it. In the end he was fully satisfied.
In and through the Gospel Reading, Jesus is inviting each one of us, like Lady Wisdom of the Wisdom Books, come and share in my wisdom. Respond to Him in your own way…
