With Authority comes power and with power comes responsibility. People can therefore use authority to coerce others or to bring a positive change in others.
In today’s readings, Moses and Jesus are said to be teaching and communicating God’s word with authority. It means that their teaching was so impactful that it brought about visible transformation in the people. People could recognize this authority of power because God was within them. It was power that could throw out the evil that lies within man.
We too have been given authority by Jesus to be children of God. Yet, most of us behave in a lukewarm manner. We have not been given a Spirit of cowardice, but a spirit of love, faith and self-control (2 Tim 1:7) but we fail to recognize our potential because we are children of the world rather than children of God. Let us reflect on how we have not been open to let the Spirit of God work in our lives. Why have allowed sin to have authority over our lives?
