Saul Dies in his arrogance and self-righteousness, not he alone, all of his son, except one. Jonathan is also one of the fallen… This is what self reliance can do to you; one day you are on top of the world, the next down and out… Here Jesus’ Parable of the Rich Man who waned to build barns makes sense.
David, know his place and thus mourns Saul, Jonathan and the rest of his family. He understands that Saul indeed was great, because God working through him had unified a divided nation, and made Israel someone to be counted.
Jesus in the New Testament is going wholesale into proclaiming God’s Kingdom. He is mindful of His wants and limits, and those of his Disciples/Apostles, but the crowd intrudes even on His privacy, and He knows they are needing of getting the touch of God in their lives, just like the woman with the 12 year hemorrhage. And He does not turn back anyone… He is satisfied in body, soul and spirit in working all the time for His Fathers People. His food as it were is to do His Father’s will…
