In giving the Law, God makes us aware of what is life and good, death and evil. But like the perfect gentleman that He is, He does not impose upon us His will. He shows us the truth that we may make an informed choice and decision. If then we end up like the prodigal son in the pigsty of life, then it is we who are to blame not God.
On the other hand, following Jesus is not easy. Not easy because we have grown up with understanding of things based on the world around us. The world labels things as good, bad, avoidable, desirous etc. But in reality are they as such… But even as we grow into adults and imbibe the world’s values and understanding, we are molded in the likeness of the world. But the values of Jesus/God are different and true. This difference is what hampers us, many a times, to make the right choices of life and good. The world view that we acquire is what projects, Jesus’ ways as difficult, unacceptable, to be feared and detested etc. So for the one who is not ready or not fully, re-born in thought, understanding and knowledge, the path of Christ, seems like an undesirable, detestable thing.
This Lent, invite the Holy Spirit to transform your thoughts, to the truth of life, open your eyes to everything good in life, not according to the world, but actual reality.
