In the company of the Chief Shepherd, how do we live… the Psalm 23 way.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
- My Shepherd is very mindful of me
- He sees to my every need
- I will be needing or wanting nothing…
- Since He sees to my needs, be it
- food to feed me or
- water to quench my thirst.
- He inspires and refreshes me mentally.
- He teaches me what it means to be good like Him,
- and propagates His name through me..
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
- Life will throw difficult situations towards me
- but I need not worry
- nothing shall harm me.
- I will be like a duck, evil shall just fall away from me.
- This we can say confidently because the shepherd uses his rod and staff
- The rod to protect me from everything that wants to harm me
- And the staff with its crook, He uses to direct my paths away from harm.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
- Even though the paths He leads me are dangerous and filled with enemies of my soul
- I need not fear anything
- He spreads the cloth, places on it the most wonderful things to eat
- and we picnic.
- Who will dare to harm me, when my Lord is with me.
- He is always with me, and I am safe.
- He honours me with the crown to rule with Him,
- What more can I ask, I am overfull with joy.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
- If this is the truth of living with the Shepherd,
- Should I seek other options?
- Because in His presence I see only goodness and mercy
- promising me fullness of life and love
- I make my choice
- He is my shepherd
- His presence is the place I want to be.
- In Him I put my trust
- nothing else will I want
- …
