Humility is highlighted as being a very important quality by Jesus. He comes to the most lowest place in the world to get baptised. Just like He came to Earth and became human and flesh. The Creator becoming the creature.

But we also see another quality which Jesus shows us, which goes hand in hand with humility. Humility helps us to accept the facts as they are. Example: we cannot change things around us, we will not know everything completely, we need help etc.

Acceptance helps us to accept the processes we get led through. As in Jesus’ context acceptance of the path of the cross to his death, not because He liked it, but He knew the God who was leading Him down it was dependable and knew the path better than He himself could understand. Then there is today’s Gospel reading where Jesus, the Creator, stooping down and washing the feet of His Disciples. Becoming like a servant to give of himself completely (=love), for all humanity/creation. What is He trying to say with this? “Do you understand what I have done to you?” What He seeks to say is – Love is the perfect way of service. When you love, then there is no pride or confusion. There is no me. You are ready to go all the way in loving others, because you accept the fact that you love, and love counts the cost, and as yet decides to love.

Bible Verse For Today

I give you a new commandment, says the Lord:love one another as I have loved you.
