Abraham showed great faith in God, when he went up the peak, where he was asked to sacrifice Isaac. God reciprocated, by sending His Son to be the pleasing and redeeming sacrifice. This is the story arch against which you need to see today’s reading. Also in the middle of this arch place David and his great zeal and friendship of God. God promised him a Son to rule the world forever…
Now look at the incarnation and you see the awesome humility of God, first to become human and second to subject Himself to human institutions. One of this institutions is St. Joseph the husband of Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ. In Him God found the perfect person to guard, watch over His Son, and teach Him. A humble soul, who only thought of the other… When he heard of Mary’s pregnancy, he sought to divorce her in secret, to avoid a public scandal, and its repercussions on Mary. When he was told, the child is God come to save the world, He accepted and believed and took charge of the situation to protect Mary and the Baby. When told to flee Bethlehem, he did not tarry, but immediately fled to Egypt. And when the time was right, and so informed by an angel, he came back and took abode at Nazareth, to protect the child, as well as give a good atmosphere to teach Him.
A simple life, friend of God, humble in all ways – to accept the paths God choose for Him, and what dignity he is accorded – to be the foster Father of the Jesus the Christ.
